I’m in Pennsylvania right now and we just finished a great ‘Demo Man’ event for the PIOGA (Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Assoc).
Dan Bowen of DuPont gave a very informative presentation on FR clothing to 30 plus folks here in Williamsport. We burned a variety of fabrics including 100 percent cotton, poly/cotton, FR cotton, Nomex IIIA and some rainwear. The group was impressed with how well the Nomex performed.
It was interesting to see how the different rainwear products performed. One garment stated it was FR compliant but referenced NFPA 701 which is not for FR garments. That rain jacket melted and dripped profusely leaving only a few patches melted to the FR coverall beneath. To truly be FR rainwear a garment should meet ASTM F2733 for flash fire or ASTM F1891 for arc flash.
All in all it was a very informative and exciting day for all those in attendance. Thanks to DuPont and PIOGA for hosting.
