At the recent NFPA 654 standard development meeting that I attended, the committee reviewed public comments on the first draft of the standard. There were several hundred public comments made, which required the committee to review and propose resolutions to each. The committee spent three days reviewing each comment and then agreeing on a resolution. Some comments were found to be valid and will be incorporated into the second draft, while others were not agreed with and will not be included.

The portion of the standard which discusses the use of flame-resistant clothing had only a dozen comments, many of which helped with clarification and therefore will be incorporated. A second draft will be going out for comment between September and November of this year, after which the committee will review, resolve and then submit the standard to proceed through the final NFPA completion process. The final standard is scheduled to be issued in August of 2015.
