Recently, there has been talk in the industry about skin burns to wearers due to a chemical reaction of Flame-Resistant Cotton (FRC) garments when splashed with liquid bleach. Although it is true FRC garments have a negative reaction when exposed to liquid bleach splash, it is also true that most, if not all common FR garments were never intended to protect against chemical splash hazards.
Chemical splash protection against substances like bleach or other strong oxidizers requires specialized chemical splash protection garments. Garments manufactured and sold by Workrite Uniform are not suitable for chemical protection. Chemical protective clothing should be worn in any situation where a chemical splash hazard is present, regardless of whether or not there is a thermal hazard as well. Products like DuPont Tychem ThermoPro provide both thermal and chemical protection.
